Art is Experience

It has been more than ten years ago that Yoshimi HAYASHI has been organizing exhibitions and creating his works, while staying in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. In this exhibition his new works will be introduced which exhibit the combined efforts of his usual local process in Nagano Prefecture and the experience of collaborating with local high school students. Born in Japan, Yoshimi HAYASHI moved to California with his family when he was six years old. He studied psychology and art history in the U.S., experienced Japanese ceramic art, tea ceremony, participated in the Shikoku Pilgrimage and studied Karate in Japan. While in the U.S., he enjoyed surfing and cycling as well. He came to understand nature based on his experiences in both countries and, from that standpoint, genuinely set off to create art. His works suggests to us the importance of experience and that art must be created freely in the same sense as we strive to live.
